For this example we will use ClickSend
Note: In our testing we found this provider works in the US.
Enable the Email-to-SMS option from your provider and check the allowed sender list. This is a list of email addresses which the email-to-sms service will allow messages from. Most providers automatically add the address attached to the account in the allowed sender list.
Setup Notification Server
Configure mail server on gateway, Configuration → System → Notification → Mail Server.
Note: Because the gateway sends SMS messages to Email-to-SMS provider via email, the email notification capability needs to be configured.
Configure SMS service on gateway, Configuration → System → Notification → SMS.
User Account Setup
You need to configure user's phone number for two-factor authentication.
VPN access
Administrator access
To make the necessary change(s) go to, Configuration → Object → User/Group → User.
Extras
Depending on your email provider, extra content may be added to the email when it is sent. Such as a security disclaimer notifying that the email was scanned for threats before it was sent. This extra content on the email will make the SMS message longer and may send as multiple text messages. Many providers allow you to create rules to ignore certain content in an email, such as signatures which are automatically added and such.
ClickSend has a feature called "Start/Stop Message at text" where you can specify where the system should start reading the message, where to stop or both. Other providers may provide tags to use to open and end a message, such as {sms} and {/sms}, where {sms} is where the message starts and {/sms} is where the message ends, all other text is ignored. Use these features to help shorten the SMS message so it only sends 1 instead of multiple.
To accomplish this with ClickSend we will add a start and end point. For this example we will use {sms} as the point where the message starts and {/sms} to end it. The start/stop can be anything you would like, 'xxxxx', '?????', etc, it is just a string that the service will check for.
Next step is to edit the message the ZLD appliance sends to include our start/stop string. On the ZLD appliance go to, Configuration → Object → Auth. Method and click on the Two-Factor Authentication tab. Set the "Delivery Settings" accordingly and on the message box add your start/stop string or both as the example below. You may also shorten the default message to fit better on an SMS message.
