This guide provides step-by-step instructions on setting up DNS for system and/or LAN.
Overview
DDNS can be used by users whose ISP (Internet Service Provider) is providing a dynamic IP address for their service. This type of connection is frequently used in residential internet connections. Using an internet connection with a dynamic IP address can make accessing the ZLD appliance from a remote location (the internet) a challenging task. This is because the IP address can change at any time. The IP address for a dynamic internet connection may change if the router/modem is rebooted, or, when the DHCP lease expires. This means the user must constantly verify the internet IP address and memorize the string. This can become a cumbersome task. Setting up DDNS allows the user to create a hostname with a supported DDNS provider, the ZLD device can then update this hostname with the correct IP address. With DDNS accessing the ZLD device from a remote location becomes easier since there is no longer an IP address that needs to be verified and memorized.

DDNS Client Setup
From the ZLD appliance WebUI go to menu, Configuration → Network → DDNS. Click the Add button to insert a DDNS client entry:
- Enable DDNS Profile – Make sure this box is checked.
- Profile Name – Provide a name for the DDNS client profile.
- DDNS Type – Click the dropdown and select one of the supported client providers.
Note: Some settings may vary by DDNS provider. - HTTPS – Enable option if supported by DDNS provider.
- Username – Provide the DDNS provider account user name.
- Password – Provide the DDNS provider account password or update key value.
- Domain Name – Provide the DDNS hostname created via DDNS providers control panel.
- Primary Binding Address – Select the physical interface the IP address will be pulled from under Interface (by default WAN1 is selected). Also, select the IP Address that will be used to update the DDNS provider (by default the client will pull the IP address from the interface, an IP address can be manually entered by selecting Custom from the dropdown).
- Backup Binding Address – By default this is set to none (disabled). This can be enabled if the ZLD appliance has dual internet connection enabled. If the primary binding connection drops the DDNS client will update the DDNS provider with the secondary WAN IP address.
- The "Advance" option provides additional setup for wildcard DDNS hosting and mail exchanger.
- Click the OK button to save the DDNS client settings. Once the settings are applied the DDNS client will attempt to update the DDNS provider. Status of the client can be viewed from, Monitor → System Status → DDNS Status.
