This guide goes over setup of the Facebook Wi-Fi feature on the following devices.
Overview
Facebook Wi-Fi lets customers check in to your businesses Facebook page for free Wi-Fi internet access. When people use this service, it allows the business to share announcement and offers to their customers.

Enable Facebook Wi-Fi
To activate the service and configure the device to redirect users to your Facebook business page please login to the Zyxel device web configuration screen. From the web configuration screen go to menu Configuration → Web Authentication, on the Web Authentication tab click on the "Facebook Wi-Fi" option. Make the following changes from this screen:
- Check the box to "Enable Facebook Wi-Fi".
- Check the box to "Enable user idle detection". (Optional)
- Specify the user idle timeout period if "Enable user idle detection" has been enabled/checked. Between 1 and 60 minutes timeout period.
- Click the Apply button at the bottom of the screen to save the settings.
Create Facebook Page
Now that the Facebook Wi-Fi service has been activated click the Configure button to pair the Zyxel with the Facebook business page.
You will be redirected to a Facebook login screen, if the browser has your Facebook credentials saved in will skip the login page. If you already have a business page created, please skip this section and move to the next Pair Facebook Page. Click the Create Page button to add a business page to your Facebook account.
To pair a Facebook business page with the device, it needs to be a "Local Business or Place" account type.
- Select the "Local Business or Place" option.
- Enter the necessary information to create the page and click the Get Started button when finished.
Once the business page is created you will be redirected to the page for customization. Customize the page as needed and return to the Zyxel's web configuration screen to pair the business page.
Pair Facebook Page
Click the Configure button to pair the device with the Facebook business page.
Make the following changes from the configuration screen:
- Select the Facebook Page from the dropdown that you wish to pair with the Zyxel appliance.
- Select a Bypass Mode option.
- Specify the Session Length, or, time users will have internet access before they need to re-authenticate through Facebook Wi-Fi again. Options are half hour, 1 hour, etc.
- Optionally you can add your own Terms of Service disclosure for users to see.
- Click the Save Settings button to apply the changes.
Enable Web Authentication
Now that the Facebook business page has been configured and paired with the appliance, the captive portal or hotspot feature needs to be enabled to force users on the guest network to login using their Facebook accounts to you Facebook business page for internet access. To enable the web authentication (captive portal or hotspot) feature please go to Configuration → Web Authentication, on the Web Authentication tab click on the "General" option. Make the following changed in this menu:
- Check the box under "Global Setting" to Enable Web Authentication.
- Edit the "Web Authentication Policy Summary" rule the uses the LAN2 (guest network) as the Incoming Interface.
- Enable Policy checkbox should be checked (check the box if it isn't).
- The Authentication dropdown must be set to 'Required'.
- Force User Authentication checkbox should be checked (check the box if it isn't)
- Authentication Type dropdown must be set to 'Facebook Wi-Fi'.
- Click OK to save the settings.
- Click the Apply button on the bottom of the screen to save all settings.
Troubleshooting
- Users are not being redirected to the Facebook business page.
- Verify that the Web Authentication feature is enabled. This can be verified from Configuration → Web Authentication.
- Verify that the "Web Authentication Policy Summary" rule is forcing users on the guest network to authenticate.
- Verify that the Facebook Wi-Fi feature is paired, this can be checked via CLI command. Open an SSH or Telnet session with the appliance and enter the command below to verify if the Facebook Wi-Fi feature is "Paired".
- Contact Zyxel Technical support for additional support. Support is available Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM PT @ 800-255-4101 option 5. You can also get email support by completing the "Support Request Form" here.
- I have created a page on my Facebook account but it is not providing it as an option.
- The Zyxel appliance will only work with business pages that have an address. It will not work with artist pages, community/organization pages or brand type pages.
- Try using a different browser to rule it out as a potential problem.
