Google Gmail SMTP Options
Gmail provides access to three SMTP servers you can utilize for the setup:
- SMTP relay service - used to send mail from your organization by authenticating with the IP address(s). You can send messages to anyone inside or outside of your domain.
- Gmail SMTP server - requires authentication with your Gmail/Google Apps account and password. Messages can be sent to anyone inside or outside of your domain.
- Restricted Gmail SMTP server - does not require authentication, and you will be restricted to send messages to Gmail or Google Apps users only.
SMTP relay service is for use with Google Apps, please check Google documentation for assistance with this configuration.
This document will cover the setup with Gmail SMTP Server and Restricted Gmail SMTP Server.
Gmail SMTP Server
Use this setup if you wish to forward emailed logs and reports to other domains not associated with Gmail or Google Apps (ex: outlook.com, me.com, yahoo.com, etc.). If you are only planning to forward emailed reports and logs to Gmail or Google Apps domain please use the Restricted Gmail SMTP Server setup.
To configure the SMTP settings for forwarding logs or reports from the ZyXEL ZLD product please access the ZyXEL device's Web GUI and go to menu, Configuration → Log & Report.

Troubleshooting
Not receiving emailed logs and/or reports.
- Check ZyXEL device logs for errors (Logs can be accessed from Monitor → Log menu).
- Daily Report logs:
- General System logs:
- Verify the Mail To address is correct.
- Check the SPAM mail box.
- Try configuring a different Mail To address if possible to make sure the mail server does not have Google's Gmail blacklisted (if using other mail service such as Hotmail, iCloud, Yahoo, AOL, etc.).
- If using smtp.gmail.com, please verify the smtp port and that TLS security and STARTTLS are enabled.
- Verify SMTP authentication credentials, if using smtp.gmail.com.
- Check the ZyXEL ZLD devices WAN DNS settings, if there is no DNS provided for the internet connection it will not be able to resolve smtp.gmail.com domain, use Google DNS servers if possible (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4).
- Double check the internet connection (make sure internet is accessible through the ZyXEL ZLD device).
- If using Google Apps account, security levels configured for your domains dashboard may prevent the ZLD email application from successfully authenticating and send mail. Security settings will need to be modified on your Google Apps dashboard to allow the ZLD email application to function.
- If using Google 2-Step Verification feature make sure you create an App Password for the ZLD email client.
- Contact Zyxel Technical support for additional support. Support is available Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM PT @ 800-255-4101 option 5. You can also get email support by completing the "Support Request Form" here.

E-mail works satisfactorily, if only by port 587 outbound. That's all I need!
