The Auto Healing feature is designed to automatically detect disabled access points and restore the wireless network configuration by increasing the coverage area created by nearby access points.
Important! For this function to work, it is necessary that initially the signal power level of the access points is not set to the maximum value of 100%, otherwise they will not be able to increase their power. In the settings of NWA access points, you can set discrete values of signal strength, for example, 75% or 50%.
Consider the following scenario: a floor in a six-class campus.
Each class has its own access point. Teachers and students use tablet computers to access the wireless network .
Without using auto healing
In class Room2 there will be no wireless network if AP2 for some reason stops working. In this case, the IT officer must urgently visit the classroom and troubleshoot the access point to restore communication. At this time in the classroom will not be able to use the wireless network.
Using Auto Healing
With Auto Healing, your wireless network is periodically scanned. When AP1, AP3, and AP5 find that AP2 is not working, they will increase the output power of the wireless signal to cover the dead zone with the wireless network.
When AP1, AP3 and AP5 access points detect that AP2 is restored (as a result of periodic scans), they will automatically reduce the output power of the wireless signal to its original state.
Thus, the Auto Healing technology allows you to minimize a simple wireless network and increase its availability.
The Auto Healing function can be configured via the controller web configurator in the Configuration> Wireless> Auto Healing menu.
The interval for periodic network scanning can be from 5 to 30 minutes.
By default, scanning for the presence of neighboring access points (from the list of neighbors) occurs at an interval of 5 minutes. Access points with an RSSI of -85 dBm or better fall into the default neighbor list. Each network scan takes about 1 minute. If an unavailable access point is detected, 3 confirmations are received, and only then (after about 3 minutes) will the output signal power increase at the neighboring access points. When restoring the access point to neighboring points, the output power will automatically decrease to its original state.
