Purpose of this guide
This article explains how to change the country code on Zyxel access points when the device was purchased in one region but is used in another. This helps ensure compliance with local wireless regulations and enables the correct set of channels and transmit power levels for your region.
When this guide is useful
The AP was imported from a different country or region (e.g., purchased in the US but used in Canada or Europe).
Certain Wi-Fi channels are missing due to the wrong country setting.
You need to meet local regulatory requirements for wireless transmission.
Note: In standalone mode, country code changes are restricted by regulatory rules (FCC, ETSI, etc.) and cannot be adjusted manually. This can only be done when the AP is managed through Nebula Control Centre.
How to change the country code in Nebula
Example: Zyxel NWA130BE
The steps below apply to all Nebula-supported Zyxel APs, but we will use the NWA130BE as an example.
Sign up for Nebula Control Center
Go to https://nebula.zyxel.com
Create a free account or log in if you already have one.
Add your access point to Nebula
Once logged in, click "Add devices".
Enter the serial number (S/N) and MAC address from the device label.
Assign the AP to an existing site or create a new one.
Switch the AP to cloud mode
Connect the AP to a network with internet access.
Make sure it gets an IP address and can reach Zyxel’s cloud servers.
Once synced, its status in Nebula should display Online.
Change the country code
In Nebula Control Center, go to:
Site-wide → Configure → Access points → Radio settingsIn the Country dropdown, select your desired country.
-
Save changes — the AP will restart its radio with the new regional parameters.
How to change the country code in the WEB GUI
During initialization: when running the initial setup Wizard, select the required Country Code.
After initialization: log in to the web interface → open the Wizard → go through the steps again and change the Country Code.
Changing the Country Code on a Zyxel older AP (Example: NWA1123-AC)
For some older access points, the country code can only be changed during the initial setup Wizard.
However, to avoid resetting the device, it is possible to activate this functionality via CLI as described below.
If the method shown below does not work on your device, then a factory reset is required, and the country code must be set again during the first-time initialisation Wizard.
This guide shows the supported method for current devices and an additional legacy method for older models (e.g., NWA1123-AC) where you first enable this capability via CLI.
Log in to the device with Putty or Tera Term via SSH:
Type the following command:
>set wlan country enable
>write
>exit
Go to Web GUI
Access the AP's web GUI and go to
Configuration > Wireless LAN > Wireless Settings
You can now change the country code from the advanced settings section.
