Question: How do I set up an IPSec tunnel on the ZyWALL USG series hardware gateway so that the hosts on the network are displayed in the network environment and have access to them using a NetBIOS name?
NetBIOS (Network Basic Input / Output System) is a broadcast TCP or UDP packet that allows you to establish a connection and exchange data between a computer and a local network. NetBIOS runs at the 5th level (session level) of the OSI model.
In ZyWALL USG hardware gateways, you can allow NetBIOS packets to be sent to the IPsec VPN tunnel. Thus, the user will be able to search for a computer in a remote VPN network.
This setting is made in the device’s web configurator under
Configuration > VPN > IPSec VPN > VPN Connection > [VPN Connection]
Click Show Advanced Settings to display additional options and then check the box Enable NetBIOS broadcast over IPSec to enable NetBIOS- traffic through the IPSec tunnel.
Attention!
This option must be enabled on both sides of the IPSec tunnel in case a tunnel is built between ZyWALL series devices.
