Sometimes you need to use the serial port for debugging or analyzing the behavior on a USG/ATP/NXC/NSG. On Windows, this is very simple by using Tera Term or Putty. On Linux, it is even more simple, if you know how to do it.
- Plugin the USB to serial cable to your PC/Laptop and to the target device
- Open a terminal
- Type in
sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200,cs8,-ixon,-ixoff,istrip
- Enter the password for the current user (Must be a sudo-allowed-user)
- Hit enter again, you should now see the login for the USG
Done, the terminal is now connected to the USG
To quit the session you just hit Ctrl-a and k, type y and hit enter
- Ctrl-a + k: This option is used to kill the screen session.
- you need to confirm the kill by typing y (yes) and press the enter key
